“You'll have to look — (but) we had the highest score we've ever had in 14 years,” Fassnidge said.
Feildel revealed he had the best experience of his MKR judging career during the new season.
“We love working on MKR,” said Feildel.
“I've been doing this for 14 years. And, you know, there's been some terrible recipes and some amazing ones. But this season, there are some recipes that are just unbelievable.”
Kylie Gillies asked if this year's contestants were “funny” or “fierce”, and Feildel replied that they were a mix.
“They’re really into a little bit of everything,” he said.
“We have some great cooks, some not so good. We also have some fun people around the table.
“There are some who are quiet and (there are some who) talk a lot, but it's a great group. There's no fighting. It's just great fun.”
Fassnidge said, “I would say from the first day that we walked in, (contestant) Hannah started yelling, it was the first time we met at the table.
“Like they (contestants) were on fire … we just had to sit back. We didn't have to do anything. Just sit back.”
Feildel said he was a little more strict this year, too.
He said, “I mean, in the old days, Colin used to play the bad cop and I used to play the good cop. But this season, I got into a little bit of trouble with a dish.”
“You’re a little cranky this year,” Fassnidge said.
Finally, Feildel spoke about his love for sauces in recipes, saying that this was now well known when he took a closer look at sauces last season.
“I think it finally comes to a head,” he said.
“(The contestants) finally understand after 14 years. Just give me some sauce and I'll give you extra points.”
MKR is back on Channel 7 and 7plus 7.30pm, Monday 9 September.
