It’s the thought that counts, but one woman was left wondering what exactly she got as a Secret Santa gift.
This “surprise” gift, given to her by an anonymous co-worker, was so upsetting that she admitted: “Honestly, I hate it.”
But she’s also not sure if she’s being “ungrateful” – so to the interwebs (and HR) she’s turned to for advice.
“Covered in dust”
The woman explained that her gift consisted of several parts:
- Chocolate with expiry date 2020
- “Manky Old” Nail Polish and Coffee Pods
- Suspiciously “worn” socks
“They smell of stale perfume and are falling to pieces,” he said.
“The nail varnish doesn’t look bad but the eyelashes were covered in dust and looked dirty. The outer bottles also have nail varnish on them.”
But wait, there’s more.
“It gets better – even the little balm I got has clearly been used up because it’s full of fingerprints.”
“Charity shop aroma”
It’s all complete with a “charity shop” scent… and the mom claims it’s all destined for the trash, because she won’t give any of the items to her kids.
She said she was feeling depressed because of the lack of Christmas spirit.
“I’m really disappointed by this and extremely confused,” he said.
“I wasn’t expecting anything extraordinary!”
Commenters on the post attempted to wish her festive cheer.
“Throw it away and forget about it,” suggested one, and another joked, “Scrooge to the best of your ability!”
A third argued, “This is serious. I think someone forgot and took some stuff in the house.”
Others suggested it may be a reflection of economically difficult times.
“I think they were really strapped for cash,” was one offering, but the counterpoint was, “Even if someone is struggling for money, there’s no excuse for that.”
One person said, “Blimey! What did other lucky employees get… or do you think someone is trying to tell you something?
Mother was also thinking the same thing.
The mother later admitted in the post that she felt strongly enough about the weak effort — after everyone else had gotten into the spirit of things — that she felt compelled to report it.
“The management knows and is equally disappointed. I’d really like to have a cheap bar or chocolate.”
