I saw your response regarding the person who wanted to reapply to his old firm. My son left his job for a more prestigious role in a larger company but it is a busy and dysfunctional office. His previous employer had not spoken to him for a week before he left – didn’t even say goodbye. He is keen to return to the company. Can he do this?
Seems like a very mature thinking boss. I mean, seriously, unless your son left on bad terms, misled his boss in some way or did something to give him cause for a cold departure, the boss should accept that people are free agents. And they have to follow their journey.
It doesn’t seem like the door is open for a return, but he won’t know for sure unless he knocks. Ask him to contact you, express that he feels he made a mistake and that he would like to return if given the opportunity.
The worst thing they can do is either say no or remain silent. So it’s worth a try.
