Madison Police Chief Shawn Barnes said Monday’s shooting at a Christian school in Wisconsin was the result of a “combination of factors,” but he did not provide additional details.
Speaking at a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Barnes said investigators were working to determine what led 15-year-old Natalie “Samantha” Roopnow to open fire at the school, killing a fellow student and a teacher before killing herself. What motivated you to take your life?
He said officials are talking to students to help determine whether bullying may have played a role in the horrific attack.
The condition of six injured victims transported to local hospitals after the shooting remains “unchanged,” he said.
The police chief also clarified the widespread claim that the 911 call reporting shots fired inside the school was made by a second-grade student. In fact, he said, the call was made by a second-grade teacher.
Barnes said the department is still working to determine the authenticity of a “manifesto” being widely circulated online that has been attributed to the shooter.
