The US Navy intercepted a series of Houthi missiles and drones launched at three of its warships in the Red Sea on Thursday, two US defense officials said.

The barrage was launched onto the USS Spruance and USS Stockdale – both guided missile destroyers – and the USS Indianapolis, a littoral combat ship, as they traveled north to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
This important waterway connects the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
“The American ships were targeted while they were en route to support and aid the Israeli enemy,” said Houthi military spokesman Brig. General Yehya Sari claimed.
A spokesman for the Iranian-backed rebels said the Houthi navy, air force and missile forces launched 23 projectiles, including ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones.
Saari said the operation resulted in a “direct hit”, a claim rejected by two US officials.
Yemen's Houthis have carried out several attacks on US warships and commercial vessels in the Red Sea since the Israel-Hamas war began in the Gaza Strip last year.
