Has Netflix renewed? breathless,
Plans for future seasons had already been announced, and in mid-October 2024, we received news that production for the new season would begin later that month. Netflix then declined to comment and said they would alert us when they were ready to announce.
Now, a few months later, local spanish media has also confirmed that a season 2 is on the way, with another eight episodes planned for the series. Netflix itself confirmed the renewal on December 11:
As mentioned, the show was designed for multiple seasons. Earlier this year, we were invited to Tres Cantos for a set tour, where Monteiro and Diego Avalos, vice president of content for Spain, Portugal and the Nordics, said that development on Season 2 had already begun. The show was consistently referred to as a strong bet for Netflix Spain, with executives expressing confidence that the show would connect.
Ávalos confirmed that Montero was “already halfway done writing season two” in June, adding, “We’re way ahead of where we wanted to be because we believe in the series so much.”

If we stack the premiere breathless Versus other Spanish-language shows debuting from around the world (including berlinwhich was a spin-off with a built-in viewer), we can see the show track towards the lower end of the middle of the pack. This is not encouraging, it shows that the show has not been as successful globally as it should have been. Of course, there’s data we can’t see like how many people started and how many made it to the end. Naturally also, we don’t know the budget of the show, which is taken into account.
If we turn to flickspatrolWe can see which shows perform best on Netflix, courtesy of daily top 10 tracking in over 90 countries. Naturally, the show performs best in Spanish-speaking countries, although the show is also making waves across Europe. Another strong indication that the show will be renewed is the performance in Spain itself. At the time of writing (three weeks after release), the show remains the third most watched TV title, and as we’ve covered previously, the show has been in the top 10 of its home countries for more than 30 days internationally. The shows are almost the same. Perfect renewal.
what to expect from breathless season 2
The show definitely has some unresolved storylines, considering that Season 1 ended with some major complications for most of the main cast.
Additionally, Netflix also provided an extended synopsis for the upcoming second season:
“Joaquín Sorolla is now a privately run hospital, challenging the conviction and dynamism of its doctors. In addition to finding her own way, Patricia is battling her cancer and striking an irresistible chord with Nestor. Jessica wants to regain the confidence that characterizes her, but she can’t decide between Lewis and Beale. Pilar will continue to deal with her son’s addictions, though Quique will find an unexpected ally in her when the center’s new management pushes her to make a questionable decision. All this is accompanied by the arrival of Sophie, a distinguished oncologist, who is determined to turn Joaquin Sorolla upside down.”
In the end, Jessica Donoso’s fate is perhaps the biggest of those entanglements. Should she survive, her continued love triangle with Biel and Lewis as well as her recovery will likely take center stage next season. Another main character struggling with medical problems is Patricia Segura, who was diagnosed with cancer by the end of season 1.
The disappearance of May and Rocío’s daughter at the end of Season 1 is another major unresolved story heading into Season 2. Then you’ve got the hospital and how leadership continues to face uphill battles. Lewis is at the forefront of this, managing financial struggles while facing increasing scrutiny.
