Tisch served in the NYPD for 12 years as a civilian — and said she will remain focused on the department’s mission.
“The mission is to keep New Yorkers safe, feel safe, and improve the quality of life,” he said.
Crime has been down over the past 10 months “but people haven’t felt it yet,” Tisch said.
The long-time government servant said he has two sons aged 9 and 13.
“I want to protect New Yorkers and their children the same way I protect my own children,” she said.
Tisch said she looked forward to returning to the NYPD as its leader and would support the rank-and-file police, praising their “nobility.”
“I am thrilled. I’m coming home to (the NYPD),'” she said.
“I like working with the police. These are the people who run toward danger while others run away.”
Tish will be the fourth commissioner during Adams’ three-year tenure and the second female top cop in the department’s history.
Her experience working for the NYPD never left her, she joked that until recently, she called the sanitation garage “the enclosure.”
Tisch recalled her beginnings as a research specialist, saying she focused on terrorism alerts and wrote reports on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
He served as Deputy Commissioner of Information Technology and oversaw the NYPD’s 911 operations.
Tisch also served as Commissioner and citywide Chief Information Officer of the city Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) from December 2019 to January 2022.
