Olivia Nuzzi, New York magazine's Washington correspondent, was put on leave after allegedly having an affair with former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. while covering his campaign.
The pair began their alleged romantic relationship sometime after Nuzzi wrote a profile on RFK Jr., which was published in November 2023, Status News said, citing sources.
The magazine said in a statement that Nuzzi recently disclosed her truth to the magazine’s editors, confessing that “while she was reporting on the campaign, she had engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject related to the 2024 campaign, which is a violation of the magazine’s standards regarding conflicts of interest and disclosure.”
According to the magazine, if the magazine had known about this relationship, the reporter would have been barred from covering the presidential election. However, the magazine did not name Kennedy in its statement.
“An internal review of her published work found no evidence of inaccuracy or bias. She is currently on leave from the journal and the journal is undergoing a thorough third-party review,” the statement added.
“We regret this breach of our readers' trust.”
A source told Status News that Kennedy was not used as a source because of Nuzzi's coverage of the election.
According to the outlet, another person familiar with the relationship said the two were believed to have become romantically involved around New Year's.
The Post has contacted Kennedy’s team for comment.
Kennedy, 70, has been married since 2014 to “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress Cheryl Hines, his third wife.
He launched his presidential campaign in April 2023 on the Democratic ticket to challenge incumbent President Joe Biden.
After failing to garner any serious support nationally, Kennedy suspended his bid for the White House as an independent candidate less than 24 hours after the Democratic National Convention ended last month.
He then endorsed former Republican President Donald Trump.
