Hyundai expands EV infrastructure, inaugurates charging station in Chennai

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has taken a significant step towards bolstering electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Tamil Nadu by launching its first fast-charging station in Chennai. This initiative marks the beginning of a larger plan to establish 100 such facilities across the state.

The newly inaugurated 180 kW DC fast-charging station, located at Spencer Plaza in Chennai, features both 150 kW and 30 kW connectors. Notably, it is designed to accommodate compatible four-wheelers, regardless of brand or model.

Jae Wan Ryu, Executive Director – Corporate Planning at HMIL, expressed enthusiasm about the milestone, stating, “As we celebrate 28 years of HMIL in India, we are delighted to inaugurate our first-ever 180 kW fast public charging station in Chennai. In line with Hyundai’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’, we aim to enhance convenience for all EV users.”

Ryu also outlined the company’s broader vision, mentioning plans to establish 100 charging stations across Tamil Nadu. This ambitious undertaking aims to fortify the EV ecosystem and incentivize more customers to transition towards electric vehicles.

To facilitate seamless access to the charging infrastructure, EV owners can utilize HMIL’s Charger Management System within the myHyundai App. This integrated platform enables users to locate stations, schedule charging slots, make digital payments, and monitor charging status remotely.

Moreover, the company has integrated over 170 charging points across Tamil Nadu into the “EV Charge” section of the myHyundai app. This inclusive approach ensures accessibility for both Hyundai and non-Hyundai EV users, further advancing the cause of sustainable mobility in the region.
