Maharashtra: High-Security Registration Plate price for vehicles varies from Rs 531 to Rs 879

According to the division, excluding GST, each HSRP plate of size 200 mm x 100 mm and 285 mm x 45 mm for two-wheelers and three-wheelers will cost Rs 219.9, while those of 500 mm x 120 mm and 340 mm x 200 mm will cost Rs 219.9. Size plates will cost. Four or more wheelers will cost Rs 342.41.

The price of snap lock and third registration mark for all types of vehicles, excluding GST, will be Rs 10.18 and Rs 50 respectively.

The Goods and Services Tax component for levy of HSRP will be Rs 81 for two-wheelers and tractors, Rs 90 for three-wheelers and Rs 134.10 for four or more wheelers.

Even old vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, except two-wheelers and tractors, will have HSRP on the front and rear as well as a third registration mark sticker on their windshield, as per Rule 50 of the Motor Vehicles Act. is defined. Vehicle Act, 1988.

With GST, the rates include the cost of non-removable snap lock for tractors and two-wheelers, while for three-wheelers and four or more wheelers, the price includes the cost of the third registration mark sticker, which will be all Installed on the windscreen of vehicles.

RTO sources said that 18 percent GST will be applicable on the HSRP rate.

For old vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, the Maharashtra Transport Commissioner’s office has set March 31, 2025 as the deadline for imposing HSRP and has appointed three agencies after a lengthy tender process to complete the task. .

A day before the swearing-in of the new Maharashtra government in December, officials issued the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the new registration plates.

To curb vehicle theft and bring uniformity in vehicle identification markings, the fitment of these number plates was made mandatory for vehicles registered in Maharashtra before April 2019, and the onus was on the manufacturers to install them.

Made from rare aluminum alloy, the HSRP features a retro-reflective film with the verification inscription ‘India’, a chromium-based Ashoka Chakra hologram, hot-stamped letters IND in blue and a unique serial 10-digit laser branding . The number makes it tamper-proof.

As per the SOP, the vehicle owner is responsible to get the HSRP and third registration mark sticker installed by March 31, 2025.

Enforcement officers (regional transport offices and police) have been authorized to take legal action and impose fines for non-compliance under Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 after the expiry of the March 2025 deadline.

The Transport Commissioner’s Office has appointed three agencies for the work of installing new registration plates in three areas across Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra government invited tenders in August 2023 to fit HSRP in more than two crore vehicles registered before April 1, 2019.

According to HSRP tender documents, around 2.10 crore vehicles, including 1.62 crore two-wheelers and 33 lakh four-wheelers, were registered in Maharashtra between 2008 and 2019.

Each agency will have to set up HSRP embossing and installation centers in their respective areas based on vehicle number. They will also create software or applications for appointments, payments and complaint management.

The SOP mentions that vehicle owners will have to book an appointment for HSRP installation at least two days in advance and the agencies will have to prepare the HSRP plate by that time.
