Skoda Auto Volkswagen India (SAVWIPL) on Tuesday said it has partnered with coffee planters in Coorg, Karnataka to launch the ‘Curiosity Fuel’ project, an initiative to supply Indian coffee directly to European markets.
According to a statement, the company has supplied around 25 tonnes of Coorg coffee to its facilities in the Czech Republic.
India is the world’s eighth largest coffee producer, with export value of about US$1.25 billion.
Recognizing India’s rich coffee heritage, the brand strategically chose to source coffee directly and in turn, support family-owned coffee farms in Coorg, Karnataka.
The company said the initiative is redefining the coffee supply chain by connecting directly with local farmers and eliminating many middlemen.
“By bridging the gap between the coffee planters of Coorg and our global operations, we are driving community development.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, said, “This initiative exemplifies our belief that true progress in the automotive sector must include environmental responsibility and community empowerment. This reflects the symbiotic relationship between our industry and India’s rich agricultural heritage. It’s about building relationships.”
