Skoda Auto plans to offer mild hybrids to EVs in India: Chairman & CEO Klaus Zellmer

Leading car maker Skoda Auto will introduce a range of vehicles ranging from mild hybrid to fully electric as part of its electric mobility journey in India, the company's Chairman of the Board of Management and CEO Klaus Zellmer said on Tuesday.

The company has identified an entry-level EV that will be introduced globally in 2026 as an option for India, followed by the SUV Enyaq and another compact SUV Elroq.

“We have a solid plan. Our plan covers the entire range of portfolio including the entire range of cars, mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles,” Zellmer told PTI on the sidelines of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) annual conference here.

He was responding to a question on how Skoda Auto is preparing for the electrification journey in India.

“Because we believe we have to respect customers' desire to pay for what they want to use to stay mobile,” he said of the reasons for considering different technology options.

On the product pipeline, Zellmer said, “Our portfolio currently covers an entry model which we will introduce in 2026. This is an option for India.”

He further added, “The next car for India will be the Enyaq as a battery electric vehicle which we currently sell in Europe. The Enyaq is an SUV.” After the Enyaq, the company introduced the Elroc which is a compact SUV for India.

Skoda Auto is leading the revival of the Volkswagen Group in India under a plan announced in 2018.
