Skoda to unveil New Kodiaq and Octavia in India

Czech carmaker Skoda is gearing up to launch new models in India, including the latest version of its premium SUV, the Kodiaq, to strengthen its presence in the market. The automaker has announced plans to introduce a sub-4 meter compact SUV early next year, adding to its existing lineup that includes the mid-sized SUV Kushaq.

In an interaction with PTI, Skoda Auto India Brand Director Petr Janeba shared that the company is also looking to reintroduce the premium sedan Octavia to the Indian market later this year. Janeba mentioned that test mules of the new Kodiaq are expected to arrive in India by the end of this year, with the model likely to be launched around this time next year.

Janeba emphasised that while Skoda has a vast portfolio of cars globally, in India, the company aims to introduce models “which have a big chance to be successful.” He highlighted the growing preference for SUVs among Indian consumers, prompting all brands to bring more SUV models to cater to this demand.

For customers seeking a classic sedan experience, Skoda is keen to bring back the Octavia. “Octavia is also on our radar to be brought back to the Indian market. Slavia is targeting one segment, but Octavia is a completely different statement,” Janeba said. He added that sales of completely built units (CBUs) would likely begin later this year, with local assembly of the model expected to start by next year.

Additionally, Skoda plans to introduce the new Superb in the Indian market as a CBU. Janeba remarked, “We need to bring all the products which make sense because the brand is up and running with the models. The more cars you have, the bigger brand you are.” He stated that the company aims to offer a healthy mix of products, with European legacy brands at the upper level and deeply localised, volume-oriented brands at the entry level.

As part of the Volkswagen Group, Skoda is also exploring the introduction of battery-electric models in India, signaling its commitment to expanding its footprint in the country with a diverse range of offerings.
