The compact Fortuner is expected to be constructed on Toyota’s latest IMV 0 ladder frame platform, engineered to maintain the brand’s hallmark standards of reliability and robustness while being more cost-effective. This platform marks a progression from the existing IMV platform, which underlies popular Toyota models like the Fortuner, Hilux, and Innova. It’s expected that the mini Fortuner will share design cues and features with the Hilux Champ pickup, already available in Thailand and Indonesia.

With an emphasis on a rugged aesthetic, the mini-Fortuner can adopt retro design elements from the Hilux Champ, including circular headlamps, C-shaped DRLs, and a sturdy bumper featuring a prominent skid plate. Inside, similarities to the Hilux Champ are expected, such as large touchscreen infotainment system and an expanded array of tech features.

The IMV 0 platform can accommodate diesel engines ranging from 2.4 to 2.8 liters, as well as the 2.7-liter petrol engine currently utilised in the Fortuner in India. This versatility enables Toyota to cater to various market preferences and emission regulations.

The compact Fortuner could address a gap in Toyota’s Indian lineup between the Innova Crysta and the full-sized Fortuner, providing a more accessible option for SUV enthusiasts. With the Fortuner’s on-road prices soaring above Rs 60 lakh in certain regions, the mini Fortuner might be priced around the Rs 25 lakh mark, positioning it as a direct rival to the Mahindra Scorpio N.
