Left-leaning New York Times accused of “lying” Vice President Kamala Harris accused of plagiarism To undermine a special report by a conservative activist who called out the Democratic presidential nominee.

The Times released a story saying that Ruffo found only “five volumes” containing “about 500 words” that raised questions. It quoted plagiarism expert Jonathan Bailey, who said that Ruffo made relatively small citation mistakes and tried to “do its bidding”.
“The amount of plagiarism is an error and is not intended to deceive,” Bailey, who runs the website “Plagiarism Today,” told the Times.

Ruffo said he provided the Times with a full analysis conducted by Austrian researcher Dr. Stefan Weber, who found “18 allegations of varying severity” — a much broader sample than the one cited by the Times.
“The New York Times is lying about my plagiarized story and I have the receipts to prove it,” Ruffo, an academic at the right-wing Manhattan Institute, wrote in a lengthy post on Twitter on Tuesday.
He accused the Times of “deliberately withholding” the full analysis conducted by Weber in order to downplay the extent of the scandal.
When he asked the Times “politely for a correction,” editor Mary Suh “had nothing but excuses,” Ruffo said.
“And so, we’re going to fight this,” Ruffo said, “They should issue a correction, but, if they don’t, I will still publicly correct the record.”
The post seeks comment from the Times.
In his original report on Monday, Ruffo posted screenshots of five side-by-side excerpts, showing Harris may have removed the words From an article by the Associated Press Since 2008, a wikipedia article As prepared in 2008, Bureau of Justice Assistance Reports from 2000an urban institution report Since 2004, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice Press release Describing a 2007 award.
In at least two instances, the source of the original verbiage is cited in a footnote.
But there were no quotation marks around the words raised and in other cases the excerpts appear to be completely unpublished, such as the Urban Institute report.

The newspaper also appeared to hint that Ruffo’s motives in publishing the plagiarism allegations were racist.
“Mr. Ruffo is part of a loose confederation of conservative writers and activists who have spent the past year trying to expose plagiarism among academics, many of whom are Black scholars who work in the fields of diversity and inclusion ,” the Times wrote, : “Some academics…have called the campaign racist.”
On Monday, Harris Campaign spokesman James Singer said: “This is a book that has been published for 15 years, and the Vice President clearly cites sources and statistics in footnotes and endnotes.”
