The New York City couple who sparked a viral debate for charging their guests hundreds to attend their nuptials are continuing to post about their unconventional wedding on social media.
The newlyweds have been taking to TikTok to enumerate the “Non-traditional things we did at our wedding,” with their seventh installment yesterday, which explained, “Our Wedding Guests Started Our Wedding Day with Sound Meditation.”
Bronx residents Nova and Reemo Styles, who tied the knot in June 2023 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, followed by a reception at One World Trade Center, made headlines after it was revealed they asked their guests to each fork over funds to celebrate.
On their TikTok handle @thestylesfamilia, they’ve made seven posts so far dedicated to their wedding, starting with one in May entitled, “Did We Really Sell Tickets to Our Wedding!?”
The other aspects of their Big Day they’ve highlighted were having their guests wear denim, shutting down Fifth Avenue for their first dance and dressing their bridal party in custom-made colorful outfits.
Last month, the couple told The Post that they made the decision to charge attendees after they realized throwing a wedding in NYC would set them back a minimum of $150,000.
Out of the 350 who were invited to their 12-hour soiree, 60 attended and they saved $70,000, which they will use eventually to start a family.
Although some TikTokers are calling the pair “smart,” others are criticizing their frugal ways.
“What a joke! These people are cheapskates! They want the bling, but are too cheap to pay for it. They expect their friends to pay for their wedding! I would sever my friendship with anyone who tried this,” said pennymurdaugh.
The couple replied to the comment saying, “Penny, thanks for your assumptions! It’s silly to think 60 tickets could pay for the 12-hour wedding day that we had!! It DEF didn’t and we paid for all of our wedding ourselves!!”
