A report states that the head of the Bronx District Attorney induced subordinates to vote for her in an online “Fab Over 40” beauty contest – an extreme abuse of power that ultimately led to her being demoted to $160,000 a year. Had to lose the job.
Jessica Rosado was the head of the prosecutor’s office’s Crime Victim Assistance Bureau when she was so obsessed with winning the contest last October that she sent messages to dozens of subordinates asking them to help her, According to Gothamist.
Rosado was reportedly angling for a $40,000 cash prize, a spa vacation and a magazine feature.
“Hello from the Mediterranean,” Rosado wrote in a group message to 22 employees on WhatsApp on Nov. 13, when she was apparently on vacation.
She said, “I have limited service but I want to remind you to continue to vote for me every 24 hours (smiley face emoji).” “This week is very important. Top 5. Thanks team!”
A few weeks earlier, Rosado had sent a link to the contest page to 37 activists using his Bronx DA’s email account, instructing them to “vote every day if you want.”
“Feel free to share with your friends/family,” he added.
On another occasion, Rosado emailed 38 employees asking, “Did you vote today?”
“Please vote every 24 hours and share with friends and family if you are interested,” he wrote.
In the end, 17 of his subordinates voted for him — and four of them even donated a combined $81 to buy additional votes, as the contest allowed, Gothamist said.
She could not win.
Rosado was fired on April 5 for his conduct, the DA’s office said.
He admitted his mistake in a settlement with the city’s conflict of interest board released late last week, the outlet reported.
The board found that he violated the city’s conflict of interest law, which states that no public servant may use his or her government position to obtain financial or personal gain.
Rosado had worked in the DA’s office since October 2021 and received a salary of approximately $160,000.
The Ethics Board could have imposed further fines but decided that his dismissal was sufficient punishment.
