A Staten Island man claims he is entitled to $600,000 because his Air France trip to France to attend his brother’s funeral was delayed.
Nicholas Owoyemi took an Air France flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens to Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport on September 20, with plans to head to Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria, in his homeland.
But the trip went awry when Air France “excessively delayed” their connecting flight, they said in a Staten Island Supreme Court lawsuit against the airline.
Owoyemi, 66, who is representing himself, said the airline owed him for the “emotional and financial stress” he allegedly suffered during the round-trip.
“They chased me away and they lost my luggage, which was not found for three weeks,” Owoyemi, 66, said in anger at the post. “He dropped the ball. This is terrible.”
According to court documents, Owoyemi was supposed to reach Lagos at 9:40 pm according to his ticket, but he arrived at 1 am on September 21.
Due to the delay, Owoyemi and his traveling companions “could not reach their destination and had to stay at a nearby hotel overnight due to unnecessary but additional costs,” he said in court papers.
Although he attended his brother’s funeral service, Owoyemi said his return trip to New York was also delayed by more than five hours and at one point Air France “rebooked” him onto a Delta Airlines flight, which included He was not listed. Passenger.
“Due to Owoyemi’s underlying medical/heart conditions, he suffered grief and distress and briefly became ill at the Paris airport,” they said in court papers. “Due to poor health, (he) walked long distances several times between the Air France and Delta Airlines terminals to catch a flight to New York.”
“You should be able to travel with minimal distraction,” Owoyemi said, adding that Air France “dropped the ball from the very beginning.”
Air France did not immediately respond to messages.
