Investigators are looking into whether Luigi Mangione’s back injury was the alleged motive in the brutal murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, police said.
“One possible motive we are looking at is that he was involved in an accident that required him to go to the emergency room on July 4, 2023,” an NYPD official said Wednesday.
“He posted X-rays of multiple screws inserted in his spine — and in (some of) the articles, he was discussing the difficulty of sustaining that injury.”
The 26-year-old accused killer had “animosity towards the health care industry”, the officer said.
