NYT Strands Hints and Answers for March 31, 2024

We jumped back on our no-hint streak at yesterday’s round of Strands. While we did, today’s game may have come in our way of maintaining that streak, sadly. We were off to a great start, but things went downhill pretty fast. You will know all about it in a bit. That said, take a look at the hints and answers for the March 31 NYT Strands.

What is the Theme for Today’s NYT Strands?

As revealed by the New York Times, the theme for today’s Strands is “It’s lit!”

If you are a Suits fan like me, your mind will probably navigate to Louis Litt’s Harvey-hating face. The theme is not about that, of course. Could it relate to fire in some way? If you haven’t figured it out yet, maybe the Spangram hint for the day will help. That brings us to the next section.

Spangram Hint for Today’s Strands

Spoiler Warning #1
Even though we try our best to be subtle, the hints below might partially spoil the experience. You’ve been warned.

Every Strands game has that one Spangram that you need to decipher. Today’s Spangram was no exception and the hint is – “Naturally shiny things”.

Theme Words Hints for Today’s Strands

Now, if you have figured out the Spangram from the above hint, figuring out the theme words will understandably be fairly easy. However, I don’t want to ruin it for you. Instead, here are hints to 2 out of 6 theme words that may help you:

  • Hint #1: This fish has a bulb on its head
  • Hint #2: Catch those shiny things in a jar!

Spoiler Warning #2

NYT Strands MARCH 31 Solved

I was joined by Akshay (our Content Strategist) yet again today. We started by marking random unrelated words just for fun. In the process, we came across STAR, and we knew what the theme today was about. In quick succession, we found BULB, FIREFLY, and NEON. After this, however, everything went downhill and our braindead minds today could not decode the rest of the puzzle. We had to use a hint.

This hint gave us LANTERN at the extreme right. Me and Akshay shared the most defeated glance ever. We were running low on patience today, and after not finding another word in the next 10 minutes, we used up another hint. That gave us ANGLERFISH, and it took us some time to get over the almost Spangram-like word. Finally, with the rest of the grid solved, we found ILLUMINATION as today’s Spangram and were done with the game.

Well, we ended up using two hints and our 1-day no-hint streak has been broken. So, there’s that.

What about you? Did you solve today’s game easily? If not, how many hints did you take? Let me know in the comments down below!
