Olivia Nuzzi, political reporter for New York magazine And former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “wasn’t particularly careful” about keeping his alleged emotional entanglement a secret, sources told The Post about the shocking revelation.
A source told The Post that Nuzzi, 31, and the 70-year-old Kennedy scion knew absolutely nothing about the inappropriate relationship and that they “probably told a number of people” before it was publicly revealed Thursday.
“They weren't particularly careful. That's why New York magazine found out,” the source said.
The magazine said Thursday that Nuzzi has been placed on leave from the magazine because “she developed a personal relationship with a former subject related to the 2024 campaign while she was reporting on the campaign, which is a violation of the magazine’s standards regarding conflicts of interest and disclosure.”
Other sources also told the Post that top executives at New York Magazine knew about the relationship and confronted Nuzzi about it, despite reports that she had spilled the beans to editors.
A New York Magazine spokeswoman declined to comment.
Meanwhile, the newsroom is abuzz over scandalous allegations involving a star reporter.
“This is what everybody is talking about,” a New York magazine source said, speaking after newsroom leaders and Nuzzi editors joined a video call led by editor-in-chief David Haskell on Thursday night.
The source said Haskell also sent a memo to the magazine's staff Friday morning saying management had learned of Nuzzi's affair a few days earlier and was conducting a third-party investigation into the scandal.
Nuzzi and RFK Jr. — whom she wrote about for the magazine in the fall of 2023 — were allegedly sexting around New Year’s, sources told The Post.
Without naming RFK Jr., Nuzzi acknowledged in his statement that earlier this year, “some communications between me and a former reporting subject became personal in nature.”
He insisted the relationship was never physical.
RFK Jr. — who is married to “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress Cheryl Hines — met Nuzzi only once in his life “for an interview she requested that led to a hit article,” a Kennedy spokesman told The Post when asked about their alleged relationship.
Nuzzi was engaged to Politico reporter Ryan Lizza in September 2022. Lizza confirmed their split in a statement to Politico on Friday, referring to Nuzzi as her “former fiancé.” It's unclear when the two decided to separate.
