we just found something unexpected a piece Update as filming for the show’s highly anticipated second season continues in South Africa. One Piece creator and Netflix live-action executive producer Eiichiro Oda (or Oda-sensei) visited the set and provided his thoughts.
New behind-the-scenes photos show Oda-sensei, who keeps his identity as secret as possible, which Netflix has honored by replacing his face with the image of the iconic black-and-white fish with which he is synonymous (or Maybe that’s his face)?). The creator of One Piece also wrote his thoughts in a note after the trip:
“I went to South Africa!!
Cape Town is where the Netflix live-action show is being filmed!! I got to see firsthand the hard work of so many crew members in different areas!! set? Huge attention to detail? crazy! The crew’s love for the project? Very famous!! and eating? Wonderful!! Now, looking at my role, I feel an even greater sense of responsibility. I managed to speak not only with the returning cast members from Season 1, but also with each of the new cast members. My own casting selections were based on photos and videos from Japan, but seeing them all in person convinced me: “They were the perfect choices!!!” The atmosphere on the set was also great! Trust me, it’s going to surpass Season 1! Stay tuned for Season 2!”
Filming for Season 2 is currently midway through, and there is no release date for the next batch of episodes yet. Cameras continue rolling on the series with a budget of approximately $18 million per episode until January 31, 2025. Some have predicted that all-new episodes will arrive sometime in late 2025, but some have attached a list of shows to their profile that suggest a 2026 release may be more likely. Either way, we’ll keep you posted as we get more information.
We already know a lot about season 2 a pieceIncluding the latest casting updates (24 new cast members have been announced so far!), where the story is going next, and what to expect. The last big update we got came via Geeked Week, where we got a set tour courtesy of Jeff Ward, who plays Buggy on the show.
