“Outer Banks” killed off one of its most beloved characters during the season 4 finale.
JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow) was murdered by his biological father Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane).
Groff went after JJ and Kiara (Madison Bailey) to get the Blue Crown. He holds a knife to Kiara’s neck and JJ hands over the Blue Crown to save Kiara.
However, Groff stabs JJ, who dies in Kiara’s arms.
“I have already got my wish. Everything I wanted,” JJ told Kiara in his last breaths.
“Take care of others. I love you, Ki,” he added.
An emotional montage of JJ’s moments with the other Pogues is then played with narration from John B (Chase Stokes).
After JJ’s death, Kira reunites with the rest of the Pogues as they decide to go after Groff and get “revenge” for JJ.
Pankow, 26, has played JJ since the Netflix show premiered in 2020. Renewed for a fifth and final season before the final episodes of Season 4 are released on Thursday.
Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their grief over the death of fan-favorite JJ.
“You’re telling me that the character who went through the most trauma and ultimately deserved a happy ending was killed off. Throw it away!” a person Tweeted,
“Without JJ Maybank there is no #OuterBank,” someone else Said,
“The ‘I love you’ final scene of the death trope is totally bad,” another fan said. wrote“JJ Maybank come back, this can’t end like this.”
A different angry tweet Read, “Without JJ there is no Outer Banks. There is no Pogues without one of the members, there is no S5 without JJ. There are huge holes in the script and all because of personal problems between the actors. “Professionalism sent best wishes.”
