outer Banks Season 4 has already been renewed on Netflix and will hit our screens in autumn 2024. First debuting on Netflix in April 2020, outer Banks It is a teen drama based on a group of Pogue teenagers who have been searching for a treasure for the past three seasons.
Season 3 of the show will debut on Netflix globally on February 23, 2023.
outer Banks Renewed for Season 4 ahead of Season 3 release
The series was sent up for renewal a week before the new season was released and it came as part of a live event organized by Netflix called “Poglandia: An Outer Banks Experience,” which took place on February 18. The live concert saw the cast announce the fourth season and featured performances from Khalid, Lil Baby, alt-J, and Ellie Duhé.

It was also confirmed that Jonas Patt, Josh Patt, and Shannon Burke would remain in Season 4 as co-creators, showrunners, and executive producers.
In a statement issued to the press during the event, he said:
“Watching Poguelandia come to life was nothing short of spectacular. The Pogues are enjoying the adventure of a lifetime, and now we get to see even more exciting twists in the fourth season of Outer Banks. Thank you to Netflix, our cast, and the amazing fans who helped make this possible.”
Netflix cited the strong performance in its renewal notes, saying “The hit series held the #1 spot on Netflix's Top 10 English TV list globally for four weeks following the launch of its Season 2 on July 30, 2021, and remained in the Top 10 for six weeks; it reached the Top 10 in 74 countries.”
Early renewals like this are rare and often reserved for Netflix's biggest shows, which they can count on being successful when a new season begins on the service. Most shows, in contrast, are required to meet certain metrics (not known to the general public) within a specified time period to justify renewal.

Let's start with the hourly data provided by Netflix every Tuesday. So far, we can see that the show had a good opening week, growing significantly in season 2, but saw a huge drop in weeks 2 and 3. Why is that? Our guess is that viewers watched the show in record time in the first week, which is why we saw a slight drop in weeks 2 and 3.
The third season fell out of the top ten list faster than the second season. However, it still did exceptionally well.

Where is Outer Banks Season 4 production going?

outer Banks Season 4 was originally scheduled to begin filming on May 30, 2023 and then run through most of 2023, with a projected end date of December 15, 2023. Further rumors of when filming would begin were posted by gossip account Deux Moi, who stated, “Production will begin at the end of May. They will be in South Carolina until the end of the year.” A final production list, again by Production Weekly, stated that filming's start date had been pushed to June 12, 2023, still scheduled to end by December 15, 2023.
CBS17 It was confirmed that filming would begin on June 12, with various extras joining the cast throughout that week. On June 12, several eyewitnesses discovered that filming had begun in Charleston, SC.
At TUDUM 2023, Netflix posted a video of the cast and crew returning to set for the fourth season:
We got to film for a little over a month before the show went on hold. SAG-AFTRA strike which begins on July 14, 2023. For the first time in over 60 years, the WGA and SAG-AFRTA (writers and actors) are striking to resolve better pay, benefits and other key issues. Most of the actors on the show will be represented by SAG-AFTRA, and the show itself falls under the contract of the New Media Netflix Agreement.
Per 7 News WSPAThe casting agency behind the show (Kimmy Stewart Casting) released a notice on July 14 that said:
“We have effectively suspended filming.
We will keep everyone updated as soon as we get information.”
Filming on the show resumed in November 2024 after the double-shooting in Hollywood ended on the 20th. Filming was previously scheduled to end on May 20, 2024.

Season 4 filming finally wrapped up on June 13, 2024, with most of the cast posting on their stories that filming had wrapped.

When will Outer Banks Season 4 be released on Netflix?
Netflix has confirmed that Season 4 will stream in 2024 at the Next on Netflix event in February 2024.
However, while it didn't give any exact dates for what it said would be over 90 new shows and returning shows coming to the service this year, we can guess from the filming date in late May that it likely won't be before autumn 2024.
In August 2024, Netflix released a promotional video for season 4 titled “Kildare County Surf Shop Commercial”, where it was confirmed that season 4 would be released in autumn 2024.

Mia Chalice as Ruthie – “a wild child with venomous tendencies who develops a close bond with Topper. Challis is represented in Australia by Zero Gravity Management, Stewart Talent and Moore Creative Artists.”
Rigo Sanchez According to Lightner – “An imposing stranger with a pirate-like vein, this dangerous and calculating outsider begins to test the Pogues.”
We can also confirm that Detrick Jones will reappear as Dante and Connor Alexander as Deputy Benton.

Outer Banks Season 4 Episode Titles, Writers, and Directors
As we previously reported, we've got the titles of all 10 episodes for the upcoming season (though not in the exact order just yet). We know that episode 1 is titled “Blackbeard“, The remaining headings are:

Josh Patt and Shannon Burke are the two main writers for the series, with Crystal Garland and Joey Elkins also receiving additional writing credits.

What can we expect from season four, story-wise? Given the cliffhanger at the end of season 3, there's a lot to cover.
As a quick reminder, The Pogues' quest for El Dorado ended in Episode 10. They got closer to the treasure in the depths of the jungle, and John B and Sarah faced their toughest challenges and defeats yet.
Of course, there were two major deaths by the end of Season 3, with Big John and Ward dying while fighting Carlos Singh and his men.

Fast forward to the final few scenes and we see time jump ahead 18 months, with the season finally reaching a happy ending and the next adventure beginning.
In the final scenes, a mysterious old man approaches The Pogues with a job offer. Although initially skeptical, he later learns that he has a manuscript from 1718 containing information about the infamous pirate captain Edward Teach, also known as “Blackbeard”. He seeks partners to assist him in investigating the document, which contains precise details of Teach's voyages and the location of his ship.
In several interviews following the release of Outer Banks, producers have said to expect the unexpected. For example, Josh Patt said that Season 4 “is not going to be the usual Blackbird story”.

In the early days of the show, the producers stated through various mediums that they had originally planned for the show to run for four or five seasons.
In February 2023, he told EW that those plans are no longer in place and instead plans to keep the show on for as long as possible.
Josh Pate told Entertainment Weekly“I don't know if I can put an actual number on it yet — how long it takes to get to that end could grow, but now we know the shape of the end of the story. We're going to drag it out as long as we can, that's for sure.”
