Papa Roach scored a brand new smash last week on several Billboard charts with an exciting new collaboration. The hard rockers teamed up with Carrie Underwood to rework their single “Leave a Light On (Talk Away The Dark),” which was originally released as a standard, solo rock tune. Once the country favorite hopped on board, the cut reached a number of rankings for the first time, and it’s continued that trend by hitting another tally—one that Papa Roach hasn’t appeared on in quite a while.
“Leave a Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” debuts on this week’s Adult Pop Airplay chart, the ranking of the most-played tracks across adult-leaning pop radio stations throughout the U.S. This frame, Papa Roach and Underwood launch their new joint single at No. 37 on the 40-spot tally.
Underwood hasn’t scored a new hit on the Adult Pop Airplay list for more than half a decade, but it’s been much longer for the rock band. They haven’t managed a new win on the ranking in 15 years.
Papa Roach last debuted a tune on the radio roster back in 2009. That year, “Lifeline” spent eight frames on the Adult Pop Airplay chart. It eventually peaked at No. 33 before falling down the list.
The band has only accrued three hits on the radio tally. In addition to their new smash and “Lifeline,” their single “Scars” also hit the Adult Pop Airplay chart. That tune stands as both their longest-running and highest-rising track so far. “Scars” spent 20 weeks on the list and climbed to No. 31.
As it reaches its first radio ranking, “Leave a Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” is beginning what might be a slow decline on two of Billboard’s purchase-focused rosters. The single opened at No. 1 on two of those lists last frame, and now it’s dropped ever so slightly, as its sales count decreases.
“Leave a Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” falls from No. 1 to No. 3 on both the Rock Digital Song Sales and Alternative Digital Song Sales charts this week. That’s quite the coincidence, though it does make some sense, as the track’s performance on the two related rankings could be expected to be similar.
