Papa Roach recently re-released their latest single “Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark)” as a duet with Carrie Underwood. The tune, which raises funds for suicide prevention, instantly became an even bigger smash than when it was credited solely to the rock band. This collaboration has helped the group reach a very special new height on several Billboard charts at once.
“Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark)” debuts at No. 1 on a pair of tallies in the U.S. The track marks the first leader for Papa Roach on both charts it dominates, which is notable, since they’ve ranked among the most consistently popular rock bands in the country for years.
Papa Roach and Underwood are new at No. 1 on both the Rock Digital Song Sales and Alternative Digital Song Sales charts this frame. The tune debuts in first place, easily conquering the lists with a healthy sales figure.
In its first full tracking week of availability, the updated take on “Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark)” sold 6,700 copies, according to Luminate. That’s enough to make the title the second-bestselling of any genre in the U.S.
“Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark)” nearly brought Papa Roach to the summit on yet another tally. The single begins its time on the all-style Digital Song Sales chart at No. 2. This week, Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” lives at No. 1 for a tenth nonconsecutive frame.
While they may just be earning their inaugural leader, Papa Roach has come close to hitting the highest rung on both of the genre-specific sales lists before. On the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, the band earns their third top 10 with this latest win. On the Alternative Digital Song Sales ranking, they nab their fourth.
“Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark)” was originally featured on Papa Roach’s most recent album Ego Trip, which arrived in April 2022. The track was chosen as the latest, and perhaps last, single from the project in late 2023. It quickly became a radio hit in the rock field, and now, thanks to Underwood’s involvement, it’s a sales win as well.
