The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are about to begin, the athletes are ready to compete and Mongolia has already taken the show with their gala uniforms.
The Tokyo Olympics left no great moments, skateboarding debuted and was dominated by 12 and 13 year old girls, we had the first Surfing competitions in the history of the Olympics and we witnessed great moments from fellowerisms (like Italy and Qatar sharing the gold in show jumping) that show that the games are about unity and collaboration, and now it’s Paris’ turn to host the next show.
The Olympic calendar looks like this: Paris is the host for 2024, Los Angeles was chosen for 2028 and Brisbane in Australia will host 2032.
This year’s games feature great athletes, such as Simone Biles, who returns to try to win several medals after withdrawing from Tokyo and open the conversation about the importance of taking care of health. Noah Lyles, the world’s fastest man who dreams of breaking Usain Bolt’s record, as well as Mexicans such as Nuria Diosdado and golfer Abraham Ancer.
The Paris 2024 logo
The logo for the upcoming games already has a name, it’s called Marianne (no, it’s not a reference to the terrifying French Netflix miniseries).
Olympics.com explains that the logo, which has drawn some criticism, “The emblem design for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France is a combination of the gold medal, the Olympic flame and the face of Marianne, a cherished symbol of the revolution and the French people.”
Marianne is the personification of the French Revolution, she is not a real person, but represents the values of liberty, equality and fraternity that are part of the modern French ideology, as well as being an emblem of democracy and opposed to any kind of oppression.
When and where are the Paris 2024 Olympic Games being held?
This edition of the Summer Olympic Games, which is the XXXIII Olympiad, will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The Opening Ceremony will take place on the same Friday, July 26 (although, as with Tokyo, some sports may start earlier).
