Paul Mescal set out to play Paul McCartney – then Hollywood director called it quits

He’s ready to turn and scream.

Paul Mescal is preparing to play Paul McCartney for an upcoming biopic, according to Hollywood director Ridley Scott.

During a conversation with director Christopher Nolan on Tuesday, Scott told the ‘Oppenheimer’ filmmaker that his next project will be a thriller titled ‘The Dog Stars’.

When Nolan asked Scott if Mescal would star in the film, the “Gladiator II” director, who recently worked with Mescal on the project, said scheduling conflicts could come into play.

Although there has been no official casting announcement yet, Mescal has previously spoken openly about his rumored involvement in the project.

Sam Mendes, the aspiring director of “1917” and “Skyfall,” will lead an entire magical mystery tour of biopics that explore the lives of McCartney, Starr, John Lennon and George Harrison.

The families of McCartney, Starr, and the late Lennon and Harrison spearheaded the effort through Apple Corps.

Mendes’ films will tell the story of the group’s rise from four different perspectives across a total of four interconnected films.

“I’m honored to tell the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the meaning of the journey to the movies,” Mendes previously said in a statement.

Meanwhile, producer Pippa Harris of Neal Street Productions said, “Our intention is to make this a uniquely thrilling and epic cinematic experience: four films, told from four different perspectives about one of the most famous bands of all time. That’s what the story tells.”

He said, “To have the blessing of The Beatles and the Apple Corps to do this is a huge privilege.”
