Press Form The refugees are facing a 20-year sentence in federal prison after being found guilty of taking money from the Chinese government to influence American politics. Media Take Out has learned that he is now asking the court to postpone his sentencing until January 2025.
After the conviction, Pras's lawyers were given a deadline of 20 December to submit a memorandum in aid of sentencing. A memorandum is a document written by the defense attorney to present a complete picture of the defendant beyond the crime.
Pras – real name Prakazrel Michel – was arrested on charges of illegal foreign lobbying, financial crimes and conspiracy. In 2019, he was convicted on charges related to a scheme to influence the US government on behalf of Malaysian financier Jho Low. Low is accused of a massive international fraud and embezzlement scheme that cost Malaysian taxpayers billions.
Prass was accused of raising money from Low to support political campaigns in the US, including former President Barack Obama's 2012 reelection campaign, without properly registering as a foreign agent.
He was convicted in 2023 on charges including conspiracy, witness tampering and campaign finance violations. He was accused of illegally lobbying the Trump administration to shut down the investigation into Lo and to extradite a Chinese dissident to China at the request of the Chinese government.
Prass faces up to 20 years in prison in January – unless he can postpone the date.
Despite Pras's growing legal troubles, he was still booked to tour with Lauryn Hill on the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill Anniversary Tour. But in August, Hill suddenly canceled all dates.Ezoic
