Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have received an invitation to spend Christmas at Althorp House – the childhood home of his late mother Princess Diana, according to a report.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not visited the UK for the festive season since the royal family gathered at Sandringham in 2018.
However, since leaving royal life in 2020 and moving to the US, Harry has remained in close contact with his late mother's family, particularly his uncle Charles Spencer.
“Charles (Spencer) has invited Harry, Meghan and the children to Althorp this Christmas,” a source said. Express“It's too early to say whether they'll consider it or not, but the proposal is before them if they want it.”
If the Sussexes and their two children — Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet — decide to make the 5,396-mile trip from Montecito, California, to Althorp, England, it will mark the first time the “Suits” alumnus has set foot on Harry’s soil since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
Furthermore, Harry and Meghan have yet to receive an invitation from the royal family for Christmas at Sandringham this year, but according to insiders, it is unlikely the two will accept it.
“Sandringham has not been invited yet but that doesn't mean he won't be invited,” the source said.
“If an invitation was extended (to Sandringham) it would be very unlikely and I don't think they (the Sussexes) would accept it.”
The Post has contacted representatives for Charles Spencer and Buckingham Palace for comment.
The couple, who married in 2018, have also been excluded from the firm's annual summer holidays at Balmoral in Scotland since leaving royal life.
The incident comes at a time when the Invictus Games founder went into complete incognito mode to attend the funeral of his uncle Lord Robert Fellowes last month.
Although both Harry and his estranged brother attended St Mary's Church in Snettisham, Norfolk, the feuding brothers sat apart.
The funeral will mark the first time both brothers have been held together under the same roof since the coronation of their father, King Charles, in May 2023.
The father-of-two – who turns 40 this week – reportedly stayed with his uncle Charles Spencer at Althorp House during his visit.
The property is the final resting place of his late mother.
The late Princess of Wales, who died on August 31 1997 aged 36, was buried on the island in the middle of the Round Oval Lake at Althorp.
Harry has maintained a close relationship with the Spencer family over the years.
He met Diana’s brother Charles and sister Lady Jane Fellowes, 67, during the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games in London in May.
The Duke was seen hugging the couple as they arrived at St Paul's Cathedral for the event. However, Harry did not meet any members of the royal family during the three-day visit.
