Prince Harry’s latest project, a Netflix documentary titled “Polo,” has received disappointing reviews from critics who expected more from the series.
The Duke of Sussex and his wife Meghan Markle served as executive producers on the series, which focuses on the equestrian sport he has been playing since childhood.
And while the project had all the markings of a potential hit for the streaming platform, the finished product appears to have under-delivered.
“Polo” received an average of two out of five stars across the board from a handful of outlets, who termed the project “boring” and “tedious” following the release of its latest installment on Monday.
In reviewer’s reviewViewers were urged to “quit” watching the series.
The review said, “‘Polo’ makes for a boring look at a game in which very few people outside the elite class have any special interest.”
Critic Joel Keller said, “It was hard to connect with the first episode, as it presents a world that is not only not very relevant to most people, but also boring.”
However, the review states that the series is a good watch for those who want to become familiar with the games.
Harry is seen only a few times in the series, including a brief appearance in the opening credits and again in episode four.
Markle, for her part, instant attendance In the fifth and final episode of the series.
elsewhere, Guardian Gave the series only two stars out of five – calling the game “the stupidest, most disgusting game known to humanity” and “the playground of the rich”.
“It seems that ‘Polo’ will fall through submenus into obscurity at the speed of light. And rightly so,” wrote critic Stuart Heritage.
“It’s cheesy and niche, and feels like a spoof documentary designed to play on the screen in the background of an episode of ‘Succession’.”
Heritage quipped, “The ending of the final season goes out of the way to make a sequel, but I don’t think any of us deserve that.”
During this time, Wire Wrote that “there weren’t enough people in Sussex to make it anything more than a dull indulgence about a rich man’s pursuit.”
In his two-star review, critic Ed Power said that Prince Harry had a “surprisingly little” role in the project.
He wrote, “Netflix and Archewell have teamed up for a throwback interior look at a posh polo — and for once, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex don’t steal the spotlight.”
“There’s a lot of blood, sweat and tears in the series – but not enough of the Sussexes to make it anything other than a dull indulgence about the pursuit of a rich man.”
These negative reviews come just months after a report claimed Netflix owners left “disappointed” by the documentary, especially regarding the fact that the exiled royal hardly appears in the project.
Sources claimed that executives at the streaming giant expect to get “more bang for their buck.”
