Prince William and Kate Middleton have reportedly started preparing for the biggest roles of their lives: becoming king and queen.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have faced a difficult year after Middleton, 42, was diagnosed with cancer following planned stomach surgery in January.
The princess subsequently spent most of the year behind closed doors undergoing treatment, prompting William to reduce his workload and spend more time at home.
The two have slowly returned to public-facing duties after the mother of three announced she is cancer free.
Now, according to royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith, the pair have begun preparations for William’s ascension.
Bedell Smith said, “Although the king continues to perform his duties with characteristic determination, he has had to accept limitations during his cancer treatment.” told people,
“As a result William is taking on more responsibilities, and he and Kate are preparing for their future roles sooner than expected.”
The Post has contacted both Kensington and Buckingham Palace for comment.
Charles, on the other hand, was also forced to put the brakes on his busy schedule after his cancer diagnosis.
This, in turn, has allowed his eldest son to represent the firm at various events, including his most recent appearance at the re-opening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, which William attended without Charles.
“There’s a feeling of calm before the storm,” Bedell Smith said. “They’re on the line for the biggest job of their lives, and of course, Kate’s health has been prioritized, but it’s also allowed everyone to take a step back and figure out what’s important right now.” “
Last month, palace insiders claimed that royal staff had begun making succession plans following the king’s coronation in May 2023.
Plans were reportedly expedited following Charles’s health problems earlier this year.
“This is something the institution always takes into account,” a source told the outlet of palace succession plans. “It’s an institutional preparation.”
“Eventually their circumstances will change. Given what the future holds, it would be wise to build back slowly and prioritize spending time with family.
As a result, sources claimed last month that the dynamics between William and his cancer-stricken father have “shifted” after an apparent “power struggle”.
