Qualcomm launches three new products at IFA Berlin Snapdragon X Plus The chipset, which is aimed at bringing affordable Windows laptops to the market. In the newly launched lineup, the CPU cores have been reduced and the GPU power has been reduced dramatically.
The new Snapdragon X Plus (X1P-66-100) SKU has 10 Orion CPU cores (the X Elite has 12 cores) with a single-core boost of up to 4.0GHz and the Adreno X1-85 GPU can deliver graphics performance of up to 3.8 TFLOPs.
This is a step up from the existing Snapdragon X Plus variant (X1P-64-100). The only difference in this new SKU is that you get a single-core boost up to 4.0GHz which is not available on the X1E-64-100 variant. The GPU performance remains the same.
Next, the Snapdragon X Plus (X1P-46-100) SKU has 8 Orion cores with a total cache of 30MB (other SKUs offer 42MB). And it can accelerate a single core up to 4.0GHz. However, the Adreno X1-45 GPU is weaker, delivering a total output of only 2.1 TFLOPs.
Finally, the last Snapdragon X Plus (X1P-42-100) SKU is the weakest of all variants. It has 8 Orion cores and a total cache of 30MB. Its standard frequency is 3.2GHz, but it can boost a single core to 3.4GHz, which is an increase of 200MHz. The Adreno X1-45 GPU is very weak here. It can only do 1.7 TFLOPs, which is a 50% reduction in GPU power which is quite significant.
Although the CPU performance on these new Snapdragon X Plus chipsets is expected to be good, I am not impressed with Qualcomm's decision to reduce the GPU performance by half. The Adreno X1 GPU is not the best performing GPU in the PC market, and Qualcomm has chosen to reduce the performance even further.
Nevertheless, all Snapdragon X Series Laptops Those based on the new X Plus chipset are eligible for this Copilot+ PC Features. The NPU is the same across all SKUs, and it can output up to 45 TOPS. Asus is launching the Zenbook S 15 with the new X Plus chipset for $899 and the ProArt PZ13 for $1,099. Dell is also launching the Inspiron 14 with the new chipset for $899.
