Two suspected squatters died in a massive fire that broke out in a Queens garage Saturday morning, authorities said.
An FDNY spokesperson said the fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. at 172-27th Avenue in Jamaica.
Twelve units and 60 firefighters responded to bring the flames under control.
Police said responders found a man and woman, who have not yet been identified, dead in the garage.
An FDNY source told The Post that investigators are looking into whether the pair were sitting in a different structure.
Fahim Shavon, a student at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, said he was living in a room on the second floor of the house and that there were always people coming and going on the first floor and the garage at the back.
“The people there are crazy,” he said. “I didn’t even know there were people living in garages. One day the police came and they were searching for people… and they told me.
An NYPD officer said the garage was in “massive disarray.”
There was also no lock on the front door of the house, Shawn said.
“Last night, there were four or five (people) on the stairs,” he said. “I just ran past them and towards my door. You see smoking needles on the stairs. I have seen those things. These were always bad things.”
Fire marshals were investigating the cause of the fire, which was not immediately known.
