The Red Hot Chili Peppers are on fire at the moment. On Sunday (August 11), the band performed during the Olympics’ closing ceremony, highlighting the fact that the next summer games will take place in Los Angeles, CA. The group is inextricably tied to the state of California, as their most popular album–by some metrics, anyway–borrows its name from the locale.
Ahead of their semi-surprise showing at the Olympics, the Red Hot Chili Peppers blasted back onto the Billboard charts in their home country. The band’s Californication became a bestseller all over again, as the title recently turned 25, and fans returned to the title, pushing it back onto the weekly rankings in America.
This week, Californication found their way on to five Billboard charts. It reaches a new peak on three of them, a quarter-century after it was first released to the public.
Among the trio of tallies where Californication sits in a loftier position than ever before, it lands highest on the Vinyl Albums chart. On that format-specific roster, the Red Hot Chili Peppers break back in at No. 11, nearly pushing their bestseller into the top 10 for the first time.
Californication also reappears in a new best placement on both the Top Alternative Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts. On the former, the title settles at No. 15. On the latter, it’s back at No. 31.
The same studio effort also manages to reappear on both the Top Album Sales chart at No. 29 and the Billboard 200 at No. 127. Purchases of the project increased by just under 770% from one week to the next, as fans flocked to the title. In the past tracking frame, Luminate reports that the Red Hot Chili Peppers classic was purchased by just under 3,800 fans across the U.S.
