Robert Irwin was “overwhelmed with emotion” after seeing the wax statue of his father, the late Steve IrwinFirst time at Madame Tussauds.
A conservationist and zoo patron like his father, the twenty-year-old boy got a glimpse of his father’s statue during the unveiling of his own wax figure at Madame Tussauds Sydney in Australia on Thursday.
“She’s amazing. It’s the first time in a long time that she’s not just a picture,” said Robert, fighting back tears.

“This is one of the most surreal moments of my entire life. It’s absolutely incredible,” Robert said of his honor during an appearance on The Australian Morning Show “Sunrise.”
“I just look at every little thing and go, ‘This is me!’ It is me!’ I don’t know if the world is ready for both of us.”
Robert also talked about seeing his father’s wax statue, created in 2015, which stands near his father’s.
“This was the first time I got to see my father’s wax statue. I had seen pictures of it, but I had never seen it in real life,” he shared.
“I was overwhelmed with emotions. And I didn’t think that was going to happen, but I got really emotional watching it. Dad, for the last 17 years of my life, has been seeing photos and videos, and to actually see him standing there was something. “There was really a lot involved.”
Recalling that experience was emotional for Robert too, as he again held back tears.
“It was very emotional,” he added. “But you know what? My life is about continuing his legacy, so the fact that I’m with him now means a lot. “I’m really very grateful.”
Robert recently received another honor, being named Global Ambassador for Prince William’s Earthshot AwardA global challenge created by the Prince of Wales that aims to fix the world’s biggest environmental problems.
