App or console markets enable developers to distribute their games on their own platforms, allowing them to reach a larger audience. However, they do take a percentage of the cut for any purchases made through their platform. Depending on the revenue generated by developers, this cut could be quite large. That is why the creators of Roblox are now trying to beat these app stores with their new plan.
Roblox creators recently shared a new change Post on their official forumThis basically tells you that you can access 25% more robux with every purchase If you buy them from the Roblox website or using a gift cardThis is what he had to say:
,Users who purchase US$9.99 worth of Robux with a gift card, computer, or web originally received 800 Robux, but now get an additional 200 Robux to spend on the pass, in-experience items, and avatar items, or a total of 1000. Robux will be received.,
Looking at their FAQ section, it is quite clear that this is not just a limited time holiday promotion. They plan to continue this plan for global players as a permanent change after the holiday season. They also mentioned that this change also applies to gift cards purchased before today. So if you received a Roblox gift card during Thanksgiving, you can redeem it today and still enjoy the benefits.
The biggest question in everyone’s mind is why this offer is limited to web and gift cards only. And I think the answer is quite obvious. They are trying to steer viewers away from buying Robux from these markets and encourage them to spend money directly on purchases. This way, they keep all the money for themselves, eliminating the middlemen and the fees they charge.
Problems with app stores and developers are not new, because who can forget the clash between them Epic and Apple’s App StoreBut with this move, it seems that more and more developers are fed up of paying the exorbitant fees charged by these platforms. If this plan by Roblox proves successful, it’s possible that we’ll see more games taking similar steps in the future.
But this obviously doesn’t seem like good news for app stores, as in-game currencies like Robux are a huge source of income for them. But it’s a win-win situation for us customers, who can now get more Robux at the same price. What are your thoughts about this change though? Are you happy with this change or wish they implemented it across all platforms? Let us know in the comments below.
