A stone-pelter struck a straphanger in the head during a surprise attack inside a Manhattan subway station on Wednesday afternoon, according to police and sources.
The 56-year-old man was walking on the mezzanine level inside the 14th Street and Eighth Avenue station in Chelsea when an animal appeared out of nowhere and attacked him several times in the head with a rock around 12:30 p.m., police said.
“He took a good shot to the head,” a construction worker who witnessed the uncontrolled attack told The Post.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the attacker then ran out of the station.
The injured victim, who suffered a head injury, was transported by medics to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was listed in stable condition.
Police said the purp was still open as of Wednesday afternoon.
The underground violence came hours after a 54-year-old man was stabbed to death on a platform inside the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
According to sources, moments before the bloodshed, the victim fought with his attacker on the southbound N train.
His attacker could not be caught till Wednesday afternoon.
