Rohit Sharma to Andre Russell, 5 cricketers who could be playing their last T20 World Cup

In December 2023, all-rounder Andre Russell was recalled to the West Indies T20I team after a two-year hiatus, with his last appearance being in the 2021 T20 World Cup. He may not be among the highest run-scorers for West Indies in T20Is, but he boasts the highest strike rate of 163.57. Expectations are high from him in the 2024 T20 World Cup, especially after his impressive performances for IPL 2024 winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where he scored 222 runs at an average of 31.71 and a strike rate of 185, and also took 19 wickets, the most he has ever taken in an IPL season. However, at 36 years old and having not been a regular in the West Indies setup for the past couple of years, this is likely to be Russell’s last T20 World Cup appearance.

5. Shakib Al Hasan

Last year, veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan announced his plan to retire from all formats of cricket after the 2025 Champions Trophy. This means the 2024 T20 World Cup is likely his final appearance in the tournament. As mentioned above, Shakib Al Hasan is the only other player alongside Rohit Sharma to have featured in every T20 World Cup to date. He is the leading wicket-taker in the tournament’s history with 47 wickets in 36 matches. However, he will be 39 years old when the 2026 T20 World Cup is held.
