More than 100 excavators and other heavy equipment sent
More than 100 excavators and other heavy equipment have been sent to speed up development on the eastern phase of the Ring Road.
BK Singh, Director, Roadway Solution India Infra Limited, commented, “This is an important step in enhancing the infrastructure of Pune. We are dedicated to completing the eastern phase on time while maintaining the highest quality standards.”
A revised project cost increase of ₹20,375.21 crore was authorized by the Maharashtra government in October, taking the total cost to ₹42,711.03 crore.
Pune Ring Road (East), estimated to cost ₹19,932.98 crore, runs 72.335 kilometers from Urse (Mumbai-Pune Expressway) to Sortapwadi (Pune-Solapur Road).
In September 2021, the initial cost and length estimate of the eastern phase was revised to ₹10,159.82 crore.
The revised cost of Pune Ring Road (West), which connects Urse (Mumbai-Pune Expressway) to Verve Budruk (Satara Road), is ₹22,778.05 crore.
Due to new features and revised specifications, the initial cost estimate of the western phase was later increased to ₹12,176 crore in September 2021.
Singh stressed the potential of the project to transform the metropolitan landscape of Pune and said the official groundbreaking ceremony is expected to take place after December 5, 2024.
The cost overrun is attributed to the use of cutting-edge technology and changes in project parameters.
Eight tunnels, three small bridges, two large bridges and a half-kilometre long bridge over the backwaters of the Khadakwasla dam are all part of the project.
By diverting large trucks and enhancing communication along inter-district routes, the Ring Road will ultimately reduce traffic congestion in Pune.
A total of 83 communities are expected to be covered by the ring road.
