This is a psychological torture chamber.
Ahead of Halloween, a haunted house is making headlines for hosting a series of sadistic-seeming experiences, including verbal insults and electric shocks.
“I’m in complete shock, I can’t believe how far things were taken in there,” 32-year-old visitor Liam Gould told Jam Press, recalling his nightmare in the infamous Scream Shack.
Enola, the haunted house in the Scary Maze located in Walsall, England, is a Halloween experience for people over the age of 18 that is so scary that people have to sign a two-page waiver to enter.
Those who are brave enough to sign the documents can enter six rooms – each with a different theme and actor – to test their psychological fortitude through various scares.
This experience can include everything from “nudity” to “muscle stimulating machines” and “removal of personal items/clothing”. The Enola website warns.
During her haunted house-call, Gould said she was verbally abused, berated, shocked, shaved, waxed and dressed in clothes designed by infamous horror flick director, Wes Craven. She was stripped like a BDSM experience.
“I didn’t expect it to be so intense or at this level, but I should have known better after signing the waiver form,” said the terrified clothing brand owner.
The Briton said he was particularly surprised after encountering “naked actors” inside the haunted house.
And the pain wasn’t just physical. While in the first mock torture chamber, which was set up as a hospital waiting room for patients, Gould said she was humiliated and harassed in the worst possible way.
“If you’re easily angered this experience won’t be for you,” the thrill-seeker warned.
Worst of all, Enola – described on the site as a “bad trip” – is a solo experience, meaning visitors can’t count on psychological safety in numbers.
“It’s only for those who believe they are brave enough to confront the sick, the deformed, the strange and the grotesque,” says the fearmonger. website Screams. “You’ll be left wondering ‘WTF did I just experience.'”
Scare maze survivors were not disappointed with Scream Shack, which was named “Best Out of Season Experience” at the UK and Europe Scare Awards in 2023.
“I’ve been to every haunted house and Halloween experience,” one participant said on Instagram, according to Jam Press. “It was the most intense I’ve ever been.”
Another said, “We did it. Never again.”
A third said, “Lord, I was in such a state that I couldn’t form proper sentences.”
