It was an expensive drive-thru.
A 21-year-old Florida man stole a high-end Rolls-Royce from a Fort Lauderdale beach resort and slammed its expensive wheels into a Checkers fast-food restaurant, WTVJ-TV News reported,
Malik Patterson jumped behind the wheel outside the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort just after 2 a.m. Wednesday and took off, authorities said — but police spotted him quickly.
Fort Lauderdale police said they did not try to pursue the stolen white Rolls-Royce Cullinan, but Patterson allegedly lost control of the car and crashed it into the eatery on Broward Boulevard, the outlet said.
The restaurant was open for business but police said no one was hurt in the accident.
“I’m definitely not surprised,” the restaurant owner, who asked not to be identified, told WTVJ. “It’s a Rolls-Royce and people like to steal things and go on little joyrides.
“But this joyous trip right here, isn’t very fun for this guy because he’s locked out and the car is totally destroyed,” the owner said. “What are you going to do?”
According to dealership listings, the Cullinan typically sells for more than $400,000, and with perks and accessories it can cost as much as $500,000.
Officers took Patterson into custody near the wrecked Rolls, police said.
Online records show he is being held in the Broward County Jail on a $5,000 bond pending a court appearance on a charge of grand theft auto.
According to the news outlet, he has outstanding warrants in Florida and California.
Police did not release details regarding the theft of a car from the Hilton parking lot.
