A judge in Washington state released a teenager accused of allegedly stabbing a 65-year-old man to death in a home, a day after his arrest.
On Friday, the Renton Police Department said 19-year-old Ke’Shawn Conscience Jimerson called 911 just after 2 a.m. and told the operator he had stabbed someone and that he would be “outside with a knife.”
Police said Jimerson also claimed self-defense during the call.
“The caller to 911 said they saw a housekeeper stabbed inside the house,” Susan Hassinger with Renton police told Fox 13 Seattle.
As Fox 13 reports, witnesses told police they heard arguing and then saw Jimerson with a large butcher knife and covered in blood.
A witness also claimed he saw 65-year-old serviceman and veteran Michael Gray bleeding and yelled at Jimerson to call 911.
When officers arrived at the apartment, they found Gray suffering from stab wounds to the arm and back.
Officers immediately rendered aid, but Gray died at home, police said.
Court records show officers also recovered a knife from a sink filled with detergent.
Jimerson remained at the scene and was taken into custody, police said.
When law enforcement officials were asked if they objected to Jimerson’s release, they marked “yes” on the court form, stating, “Jimerson, who is 19 years old, committed suicide during an argument with a 65 Attacked a one-year-old man with a big knife.”
At his first court appearance, 27 hours after his arrest, Judge Michelle Gehlsen initially set bail at $50,000 despite finding probable cause for second-degree murder and The prosecutor is asking for $2 million bail.
Jimerson posted bail and was released, police said.
Renton police tell Fox News Digital that prosecutors have filed a motion to increase bail and a hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
Detectives captured Fox 13 surveillance video showing Jimerson chasing Gray from behind and hitting him in the back of the head with a large wooden club, then hitting him twice in the head after he fell to the ground.
The video shows Gray getting up and turning to converse with Jimerson, who runs away from the camera’s view as both men enter the apartment.
FOX 13 learned Jimerson recently moved back to Washington from Texas, where his mother lives.
Fox 13 reports that Gray was hired by Jimerson’s grandmother to do maintenance work and spent a day and a half cleaning the walls inside the apartment before her death.
Gray lived with roommates in a one-story home across the street from the duplex where he was murdered, and they told FOX 13 he was a kind man who was always willing to help.
The roommates also revealed that Gray was a military veteran. It was not immediately known which branch of the military Gray served in.
Fox News Digital contacted the Kings County Prosecutor’s Office for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
