One of the stars of “The Simpsons” is quitting his old job.
Pamela Hayden, who has voiced various characters including Bart’s best friend, Milhouse Van Houten, is retiring from the animated show after 35 years, Fox confirmed on Wednesday.
Hayden’s final episode – titled “Treehouse of Horror Presents: Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes” – will air on Sunday, November 24.
The episode description reads, “A tattooed man in a mysterious night circus leads Lisa into three strange tales of the innocent 1950s, the frightening retro-present, and a brutal future where cult TV rules the world. Is.”
“The time has come for me to hang up my microphone, but how do I say goodbye to The Simpsons? … Not easily,” Hayden, 70, said in a statement.
“It’s an honor and a pleasure to work on such a fun, witty and groundbreaking show and to voice Milhouse (and Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders, Jenny, Malibu Stacy and many others).”
“Here’s to all the people who have made this wonderful journey of mine possible. Thanks for 35 years!! Be well and happy. My best wishes to all of you. Hayden said, PS There will always be a special place in my heart for that blue-haired 10-year-old boy with glasses.
“Pamela made us laugh a lot with Milhouse, the hapless kid with the biggest nose in Springfield,” creator Matt Groening said in a statement. He made Milhouse hilarious and real, and we will miss him.
Milhouse first appeared in a Butterfinger advertisement in 1989. The character was named after US President Richard Milhous Nixon, who was then introduced in “The Simpsons” as Bart’s fourth grade classmate and best friend.
Executive producer AI Jean said, “Bart needed someone to talk to in the school cafeteria. We named him Milhouse because it was the most unlucky name for a baby.”
The show also shared a tribute video Hayden was quoted as saying “Thank you, Pamela Hayden, for 35 phenomenal years of Milhouse!”
The actress also voices Springfield Elementary bully Jimbo Jones, Ned Flanders’ son Rod, Chief Wiggum’s wife and Ralph Wiggum’s mother Sarah, and Lisa Simpson’s friend Jenny Powell.
Fox confirmed that casting for its characters will begin in the near future.
The main voice cast of “The Simpsons” includes Dan Castellaneta as Homer Simpson, Julie Kavner as Marge Simpson, Nancy Cartwright as Bart and Maggie Simpson, and Yeardley Smith as Lisa Simpson.
“The Simpsons”, currently in its 36th season, airs Sundays at 8pm ET on Fox.
The show has yet to be renewed for season 37.
