The ruthless son who allegedly murdered his elderly mother in her luxurious Upper West Side building last year left behind a trail of clues Pointing to his guilt, prosecutors revealed in his indictment on Monday.
Edward Asensio, 51, worried after the brutal fatal beating of his 84-year-old mother Ana Asensio, Googled the words “elder abuse” — and why it was taking so long for the medical examiner to determine her cause of death, authorities Said.
Manhattan prosecutors also noted that Asencio was the only person who had access to her tree-lined apartment on an upscale Manhattan street before the tragic old woman suffering from dementia was murdered.
“As charged, Edward Asencio neglected and isolated his 84-year-old mother before murdering her in their shared apartment,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a statement.
“The defendant’s alleged attack on his mother, who depended on him for care, is despicable,” Bragg said.
Asencio pleaded not guilty to murder and assault charges in the violent death of his mother, whose lifeless body was found on July 17, 2023, at 70 W. He was found face down inside his bedroom in a building on 93rd St. that houses one-bedroom apartments. For more than $5,000 a month and some units have sweeping views of Central Park.
Manhattan prosecutors said Asencio committed a “horrible act” by beating his mother “so badly” that she suffered a fatal subdural hemorrhage.
According to prosecutors, the elderly woman suffered extensive injuries, including two black eyes, bruises to the head, chest and shoulders, and blood on her lips.
Prosecutors said the medical examiner determined Ana’s death was caused by blunt force trauma.
Her death was ruled a homicide six months after her body was found.
Asensio wore brown prison overalls for the proceedings and had his hands tied behind his back.
He already has three rape cases registered against him, including one for stalking a woman in the metro.
The son was taken on remand by Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Corey Weston.
Asensio is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 23.
