Steve-O changed his mind about getting temporary breast implants after talking to a transgender man.
The 50-year-old “Jackass” alumnus explained An interview with the results On Thursday, he said he was getting breast implants because of a hidden camera prank he pulled in an upcoming film. Super Dummy TourWhere he would deceive a group of men on the street by making them believe that he was a woman.
However, those plans were dashed after she met a transgender stranger at the grocery store.
“The day before the surgery was supposed to take place, I was at the checkout at the supermarket. And the person who bought my stuff was obviously transgender, and I thought it was a sign from the universe,” he said.
Steve-O continued, “So I asked this transgender person if I could talk to them about something, and I had a conversation with this person that had a profound impact on me.”
Steve-O said his “motivation” for the schematic drawings wasn't to “hurt anybody,” though he acknowledged people's reactions would likely be “mixed.”
“I didn't have any specific meetings or conversations with trans people because I didn't feel like I should,” she said. “But I feel like the universe put this meeting in front of me, and ultimately I decided the universe intervened.”
Steve-O explained his plans to the trans man, who told the famous comedian about the “harassment” he's faced.
“(They) reported that they weren't allowed to use the restroom at their workplace, that there were probably 28 states in the country that would arrest them for having a woman's ID. That politicians were making a concerted effort to lock them up in internment camps. The level of oppression that was described was really sad,” Steve-O said.
“Being framed that way, made me think about it in a way I hadn't thought about before, where, you know, wow, maybe it's not all fun and games,” he said. “Especially the pranks. Like, if I got beaten up at a motorcycle rally, I would have thought it was better footage. And just having that mindset was very flawed, because ultimately it would be an exercise in celebrating violence against trans people. At least, some people would interpret it that way, and when it was put in front of me that way, I thought, wow, maybe I missed the mark on that one.”
Steve-O said he doesn't regret backing out from the surgery, but he does regret publicly announcing plans for the stunt.
“It was difficult for me,” he said. “Looking back, I'm very grateful that it didn't happen. I'm really glad I didn't do it. But that didn't make it any easier, because I was very vocal about my plans to do it, and I've never been an artist to say I'm going to do something and then not do it. That was what bothered me, was not honoring my word.”
“I think admitting when you're making a mistake is a very valuable trait to have,” Steve-O said.
“Jackass Forever” star tells everyone he's getting breast implants “X5 Podcast” in July.
He said at the time that he “particularly liked” the idea “because I believe the opportunity for comedy is absolutely present.”
“It’s just like Steve-O — that level of commitment,” he said.
