Street war erupts after neighbor sends stern Halloween note to residents

A war has broken out on the street between Halloween loyal and christmas fan After an anonymous letter told residents to remove the “discreet” Festive decorations.

The typed note was placed in a Queensland mailbox by someone quietly angry at the festive season coming so early in the year – especially before the American celebration of Halloween.

The letter reads, “Christmas is a joyous holiday for many people… but it has its place in December and that’s when it should be celebrated.”

So enraged by the premature festive joy, the unnamed Grinch informs his neighbors to turn off the phones Christmas lights Until after the spooky tradition of October 31st.

“It’s too early for Christmas”

Beaudesert mother Melanie Ryan has some string lights in her front yard and was one of the residents who received the notice.

The message states that Christmas is being “forced” on people too early, and that anyone with “Christmassy” decorations should take them down until after Halloween.

Ms Ryan said KidspotWhen her nine-year-old son found the letter and read it to him, she became “disappointed and angry”.

“His first response was ‘Who do these people think they are telling us what to do in our own yard’,” Ms Ryan said.

“He was clearly upset. We put up lights every year to bring joy to everyone, he distributes candy canes, it disheartens him to see someone so unhappy with the Christmas decorations.

“I guess nobody celebrates properly.”

The anonymous letter, addressed “to a resident of Beaudesert”, begins with the author stating that last Halloween he observed that homes had Christmas displays in October.

“I find this deeply disrespectful to children and adults who get so much joy from celebrating Halloween that it takes away from the holidays,” the letter said.

“I know not everyone celebrates Halloween, but for those who do, it’s a time for spookiness, scary movies, and kids dressed up in scary costumes to go trick or treating.

“I think having an early Christmas forced on us prevents anyone from celebrating properly.”

The author said that while Christmas is enjoyable, “it has its place in December.”

“The end of November may also be acceptable if you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, but October is not the time and place for it,” he wrote.

It asks residents not to put up any new lights until after October, and if they have decorations, to “at least take down Christmas lights.”

“If you have your lights on, would you please consider leaving them off during October so everyone who loves Halloween can have some spooky and spooky fun.”

Ms Ryan knew three other people who had received the letter. One was her friend, so at first she thought it was a prank, but it turns out to be no connection to the two locals who received it – including an elderly man who keeps the lights up all year round.

“I will write the answer on Christmas stationery”

The irate mother shared the letter in a local Facebook group, calling the author, “Very heartless to knock on the door or even leave their name.”

“How low life narcissists think they have the right to tell other people what to do in their own yards,” Ms Ryan wrote. “How pathetic of you to waste time typing this and delivering it to multiple homes.”

Another person who received the letter replied, “Who cares if I put my lights on early… If you don’t want your Christmas lights to come on early that’s your choice.”

Others called the author “entitled”.

“You never tell other people what to do with themselves…just respect that other people enjoy their lives and can put up Christmas decorations all year long if they want.

Most people laughed, saying that the letter would inspire them to make more Christmas decorations, one mother suggested; “I’ll write an answer on Christmas stationery and fill it with glitter and Christmas-shaped sequins.”

Another user pointed out that the deadlines for entries in areas with decoration competitions are often the beginning of November, so they also start in October.

Christmas takes away the excitement of Halloween

However, some parents were sympathetic to the Halloween fanatics.

One person wrote, “It amazes me that so many people who love Christmas, and I’m assuming the Christmas spirit, = would celebrate someone else’s holiday.”

“If this note had been begging them to be allowed to celebrate Christmas properly everyone would have been so angry that they wouldn’t have been able to celebrate Christmas. “It makes me ashamed of people’s heartless, mean, un-Christmas-like behavior.”

Another user wrote, “I would never go out of my way to write a note like this, but I agree, it kills the Halloween atmosphere.”

“I don’t like to see Halloween decorating mixed in with Christmas this time of year.”
