Tick-Tock…of Doom? Study Suggests Your Smartwatch Might Be Poisoning You!

Smartwatches have become quite a part of our regular lives. Many of us wear them while exercising, and even while out in our daily lives. But according to this new study in the journal Environmental Science & Technology Letters, these wearables that are supposed to keep you active and healthy may also be having negative effects on your health.

according to Study Linked here, researchers extracted high concentrations of a chemical called forever Perfluorohexanoic Acid (PFHXA) From the band of 22 popular smartwatches. For those unaware, it is a chemical that is used in various consumer goods such as non-stick cookware, carpet, food wrappers, and more. However, the study’s lead researchers, Graham F. Peaslee has been mentioned salon magazine “It was in such high concentrations, much higher than what we typically find in consumer products.” In smartwatch.

Daily exposure to this chemical can result in serious health problemsWhich includes cancer, hormonal problems and developmental disorders. This means users have an increased risk of certain types of cancer, developmental disorders in children, weakened immune systems, and hormonal problems. Since it is a synthetic chemical, it does not break down easily, resulting in a long-lasting effect on the body.

The study claims this harmful “forever chemical” was found mostly in smartwatch bands made from fluoroelastomers, which typically Present in high quantity in fitness and sports bandsThis opens up another issue as anyone wearing such straps while working out has more contact with the chemical through sweat and open pores.

As I read this, I am as shocked as some of you. And I have to praise the folks at the journal Environmental Science and Technology Letters for researching this issue. Now, we can only hope that the brand switches to a better option for its watch bands. In the meantime, I suggest you avoid wearing your smartwatch with sports or fitness bands to avoid health risks.
