Joanna Synge and Archie Grant were saying goodbye to their family on Tuesday afternoon before flying to Brisbane when their car was broken into and their $15,000 worth of property was looted.
The items included clothes, TVs, laptops, iPads and even his childhood teddy bears.
On Thursday, when Synge told the Sunrise host that his photo albums were in the hands of thieves, Barr was impressed.
“Oh, they took pictures of you? I’m so sorry, guys,” Barr said, clearly emotional for the pair.
“Do you think they (police) can trace it through CCTV?” He added.
The couple said police managed to locate the car, but it was all but lost.
“(It) was completely empty, not even any photos or anything. It was a kick to the heart, Grant said.
“Our information is that they have caught someone. “We’re hoping they can provide some more information about where they left the item… We believe they dumped it in country Victoria.”
Earlier in the interview, the couple explained how the robbery had unfolded.
“We were walking down the streets of Fitzroy saying goodbye… We were just walking down the sidewalk and Joe saw one of his bags on the ground.
“We thought ‘he should be locked in the car’. Then, we took him to our first car that was parked and had the window broken.
“Then a biker passed us and said there were other people watching in cars around the corner.”
The couple tried to stop the robbery by running in, as the thieves fled with the couple’s black Subaru XV sedan.
“I grabbed him, and he was kicking at me, and I grabbed his legs,” Joe said.
“They were actually yelling at us to get out of our car and we were like, ‘Get out of our car, please don’t go, it’s all our stuff.’
“I managed to take off his shoe, not that it was much compared to what they probably took from us. “Honestly, it didn’t feel real at all.”
