“(I was on a long flight to Perth… (and) I thought, 'Oh, maybe this could be a poem'.
“So, a few days later I refined it and posted it with some videos to match the words and it got over a million views overnight.
“It really surprised me, and (publishing house) Penguin reached out and said, 'We think this is a universal experience. Everyone gets excited about their little one and those first milestones. Let's Turn it into a picture book'.
“So, over the past year, we have been in the process of choosing the illustrator, the wonderful Deb Hudson, and refining the text.”
Mack said the pictures include a tribute to his late cat, Coco, as well as a father playing guitar for his daughter.
She hopes the book will help families connect.
“(I think it's) for parents and grandparents to sit down with their young children and read it,” Mack said.
“I hope what comes from the book is a great touchpoint for families. That's what I'm excited to see.”
Mack and his wife Rebecca James welcomed their second daughter, Mabel August McMillan, on August 14 and said the household was becoming chaotic with two children.
“It's busy,” Mack said.
“I mean, cluster feeding. Anyone familiar?
“This happens when the baby is drinking too much milk compared to normal breastfeeding. Like feeding every hour instead of every 3 or 4 hours.”
